Forest-related Research Database
As part of NCFC’s mission to make research results more accessible for community benefit, we have begun to compile descriptions of research projects in the Northeastern United States into a user-friendly database that can be freely accessed by the public.

Forest-related Legislative Initiatives Database
Our Center has recently compiled a searchable database of forest-related bills introduced during the 2001 and 2002 legislatives sessions for all four states in the Northern Forest region. Information on legislative initiatives can be used to identify topics of concern across all four states of the Northern Forest, compare and contrast language related to similar issues across states, and identify the legislators involved in forestry issues in our region.

Low-value Wood Resolution
The NCFC Northern Forest Region Advisory Council has adopted a resolution asking federal lawmakers to take action in support of critical low-value wood markets. The resolution proposes six specific actions. Signed copies of the resolution were sent to all U.S. senators and congressional representatives of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine at the beginning of March, 2003. We encourage other groups and organizations concerned with the wood markets of the Northeast to adopt this resolution as well.

Practicing Community Forestry in the Northern Forest of the U.S.
Download this paper describing the Center's preliminary learning from a project designed to test new ways of providing services to rural forested communities in the U.S.  Authored by Deb Mason and Shanna Ratner, the paper describes the context in which the Center operates, identifies some factors that distinguish the National Community Forestry Center from other forest-related initiatives, and examines what it means to be a learning community that changes the way information is defined, gathered, and used.
