Demonstration Forests
Throughout the Northern Forest Region organizations and individuals
are conducting research, providing models
and demonstrations, employing various management techniques on public and private forestlands. As a step
toward our goal to add value to the work of communities, organizations,
and institutions throughout our region, we have
created a database composed of a sample of demonstration forests. We believe that making what we already
know about our forests more accessible will benefit communities
and the resource itself.
This web site is an opportunity for those demonstrating/researching
forest ecology and/or forest management techniques to share their
work with others. It is also an opportunity to find out if there
is a demonstration forest in your community. The searchable
database allows you to explore where various forest ecology
and forest management techniques are being demonstrated. Confused
on terminology? The glossary provides
a definition for all the forest ecology and forest management techniques
listed. Begin by using the clickable map below to find the demonstration
forest nearest you. For a list of demonstration forests in
our database that are adjacent to the Northern Forest Region, click here.

Add
a Forest!
This is a work in progress. We know that the forests included in
our database represent only a fraction of the research, demonstration, model,
and/or experimental forests in our region. We invite you to join
us in sharing information regarding research that is taking place
on forested land that you own or manage. To be included in the database,
forest sites must meet two criteria:
1) Active and ongoing research and/or demonstration of forest ecology
and/or management techniques including timber, non-timber use, recreation
and multiple use; and
2) A willingness on the part of forest owners/managers to share
their research and/or management techniques with the public.
You can fill out a survey to be included in the database by going
to Add/Update Demo Forest Information. The
information will be forwarded to us and we will contact you before your
forest site is added. If your forest site is already in the database,
feel free to update your information as needed.
